Milwaukee native
Darrel Douglas began his illustrious career playing drums in the soulful
environment of his home church at the age of 13. Having never received
any formal musical training his education consisted of absorbing the
talents and wisdom of his elder gospel companions solely by his natural
ability to observe and mimic their styles to perfection. As a kind
of hands-on training, says Douglas, "I consider my talent a gift from God
and I will all ways thank him because I remember a time as a kid that I
did not know how to play.”
Since those formative
years Darrel has been performing professionally in and around the
Midwest for the last twenty years. His name can be seen in connection
with Spyro Gyra and the Yellow Jackets and his most recent projects
include bands such as the Pride, Saint Ain’t and Musabi. His influences
range from Earth Wind and Fire to Aerosmith to the jazz flavors of Jeff
Lorber and The Rippingtons. His Jazz prowess is an exciting and creative
addition to the aggressive blues style of Wise Fools.
